DAY 1 Shout for joy to
the Lord, all the earth, Worship the Lord with gladness, come before him with
joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Oh praise the
Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love towards
us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures for ever. Praise the Lord. The AIDS epidemic is now being seen to potentially impact peace
on the continent since it has so devastated the very fiber of every society. DAY 3 May God be
gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, that your ways
may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations. May the peoples praise
you, 0 God; may all the peoples praise you.
DAY 4 Hear my cry, 0
God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my
heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than 1. For you have been
my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. In Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe, current estimates show over 1
person in 5 between the ages of 15 and 49 is living with HIV or AIDS. DAY 5 In the Lord I
take refuge. How then can you say to me: "Flee like a bird to your
mountain." For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows
against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart.
DAY 6 You are Elohim (our creator) and God most High (El Elyon)! The Lord reigns,
he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed in majesty and is armed with strength.
The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. Your throne was established
long ago; you are from all eternity. Currently, 23.3 million people are living HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa, 12.2 million of whom are women and 10.1 million men. Pray each person will take responsibility for his/her choices in life and pray through a faith in the Lord, they will make right choices. DAY 7 How good and
pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! It is like precious oil
poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron's beard,
down upon the collar of his robes. High levels of teen pregnancy and of pregnancy outside of marriage, show how
sexually active young people are. DAY 8 You are a holy God and spotless. You are my precious redeemer! When the Lord brought back the captives to Zion, we were like men who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The Lord has done great things for them." Psalm 126:1-2
DAY 9 Jesus, the Son of God, the anointed one, thank you for who you are! The Lord reigns,
let the nations tremble; he sits enthroned between the cherubim, let the earth
shake. Great is the Lord in Zion; he is exalted over all the nations. Let them
praise your great and awesome name- he is holy. There are many children living in AIDS-effected households or attempting to
survive after the death of their mother or both parents to AIDS. DAY 10 I lift my eyes to
the hills- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker
of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip- he who watches over you
will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor
sleep. It is hard to determine exactly the impact HIV has on national economies as a
whole, but it is clear businesses are already beginning, to suffer. DAY 11 How long, 0 Lord?
Will you forget me for ever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long
must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long
will my enemy triumph over me? Already weak health systems are losing highly trained personnel to AIDS and
industry, agriculture, education all are being massively impacted by AIDS
illness and death. DAY 12 Be merciful to
me, 0 God, for men hotly pursue me; all day long they press their attack. My
slanderers pursue me all day long; many are attacking me in their pride. When I
am afraid I will trust in you.
DAY 13 They have greatly
oppressed me from my youth- let Israel say- They have greatly oppressed me from
my youth, but they have not gained the victory over me. But the Lord is
righteous; he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked. In 1998 the sub-Saharan Africa region experienced four million new infections
and rising AIDS death tolls, 5,500 funerals per day. Lost of life has been great
and the future promises to be even greater. DAY 14 I love the Lord,
for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to
me, I will call on him as long as I live.
DAY 15 Give ear to my
words, 0 Lord, consider my sighing. Listen to my cry for help, my King and my
God, for to you I pray. In the morning, 0 Lord, you hear my voice; in the
morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. One fourth of the children in sub-Saharan Africa live in a family which an
adult is HIV positive. DAY 16 Blessed is the
man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of the
sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the
Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
DAY 17 Blessed are all
who fear the Lord, who walk in his ways. You will eat the fruit of your labor;
blessings and prosperity will be yours. Thus is the man blessed who fears the
Lord. While the South African government is active in promoting AIDS education, it
hasn't the money, manpower or material to cope with the onslaught of AIDS. DAY 18 My heart is not
proud, 0 Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great
matters or things too wonderful for me. 0 Israel, put your hope in the Lord both
now and forever more.
DAY 19 Those who trust
in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.
As the mountain surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now
and for evermore. Over 90% of HIV infection in sub-Saharan Africa is transmitted
heterosexually. DAY 20 Hasten, O God, to
save me; O Lord, come quickly to help me. Yet I am poor and needy; come quickly
to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; O Lord, do not delay.
DAY 21 Give thanks to
the Lord, for he is good; his love endures for ever. Let the redeemed of the
Lord say this- those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, those he gathered
from the lands, from east and west, from north and south. A fewer than 50% South Africans alive now are expected to reach the age of
60. DAY 22 Praise the Lord,
all you servants of the Lord who minister by night in the house of the Lord.
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the Lord. May the Lord, the Maker
of heaven and earth, bless you from Zion. HIV infections at antenatal clinics in South Africa are now 22.8%. DAY 23 I cry aloud to
the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy. I pour out my complaint
before him; before him I tell my trouble.
DAY 24 Hear us, 0
Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock; you who sit enthroned
between the cherubim, shine forth before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh. Awaken
your might; come and save us. Restore us, 0 God; make your face shine upon us,
that we may be saved. There is a projection of 3.8 million new HIV infections for this year in
sub-Saharan Africa. DAY 25 Praise the Lord,
0 my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as
long as I live. Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot
save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day
their plans come to nothing. Over the next decade, deaths from H IV in sub-Saharan Africa are expected to
surpass the deaths of combatants in all the major wars of the 20th century.
Prayer is truly needed to overcome the devastation of AIDS. DAY 26 Vindicate me, O
God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation; rescue me from deceitful and
wicked men. Then will I go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I
will praise you with the harp, O God, my God.
DAY 27 The Lord is my
shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he
leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of
righteousness for his name's sake. As infection rises in the general population, so does the likelihood of encountering an infected partner early in one's sexual career. Pray for more opportunities for AIDS informational presentations in schools and churches. DAY 28 Tremble, O earth,
at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, who turned the
rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water. "For too long we have closed our eyes as a nation, hoping the truth was
not so real," South African Deputy President Thabo Mbeki told South
Africans in October 1999. "At times we did not know that we were burying
people who had died of AIDS. At other times we knew but chose to remain
silent." DAY 29 Clap your hands,
all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. How awesome is the Lord Most
High, the great King over all the earth! He subdued nations under us, peoples
under our feet. He chose our inheritance for us, the pride of Jacob, whom he
loved.
DAY 30 Praise the Lord.
Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for
the acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Let everything that
has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. The time is short and hearts are being softened as most people in Africa are
losing family members and close friends to the AIDS epidemic.
