DID
YOU KNOW?
Burma
is second only to Cambodia in the world as far as the number of
land mines per square kilometer. The Burmese goverment uses ethnic
minority group people (like the Mon and Karen) to walk through
mine fields that have been created by the ethnic armies to protect
their territory. The Mon and Karen armies will not shoot their
own people, but must watch helplessly as their captured kinsmen
detonate the land mines.

| Getting
and Spending: a Ode to Holiday Shopping
By
Erich Bridges, IMB Staff Writer
Taunts
and curses. Police and security guards struggling to control
rowdy crowds. Hand-to-hand combat.
I'm
not talking about the violence at recent sporting events.
I'm talking about Christmas shopping.
If
you survived "Black Friday" - the big day-after-Thanksgiving
sales - you know what I mean. "Black Friday" refers to merchandisers'
hopes of moving out of the red and into the black, profit-wise,
on a single holiday weekend. But it carries an ominous tone
that chills the hearts of retail employees.
"I
am on a mission," guerrilla shopper Stacey Shore grimly
informed a Richmond Times-Dispatch reporter outside a local
Target store Nov. 26. She had been waiting outside since
4:10 a.m. Mission objective: a portable DVD player on sale.
It's
easy to make fun of guerrilla shoppers. Maybe you're one
of them. Listen, considering the cost of living these days,
I applaud anyone who can find a bargain. Nor is this another
Grinch-like attempt to make you feel guilty about shopping
for Christmas presents. It's a time for giving. If you like
buying nice gifts for friends and family, that's great.
Just remember
this: Children are watching you year-round - and learning.
You may not have kids of your own yet, but the habits you
create now are the habits you will pass on to your children
in the future. If you believe deep down that stuff equals
happiness, they will, too. If you load up your life with
things you "need" just because others have them, your children
will follow the same path. Read

The
Journey (6:13)
Friendship blossomed after missionary Tom Thurman gave a
rickshaw ride and a Bible to Abdul, a young Muslim man in
South Asia. After accepting Christ, Abdul suffered severe
persecution, but God used him to bring phenomenal numbers
of Muslims to a saving faith in Jesus!

Persecuted
Church: Southeast Asia
A
believer from an unreached people group in Southeast Asia was
shot three times in the chest after sharing his faith with friends.
This young man has endured much persecution in the past but has
always been faithful in his sharing. He is a leader among the
first believers from his people who have been historically resistant
to the gospel. Although still in great pain, this bold witness
is planning to return to his home in the heartland of his people
group to be a witness to them. He has a bullet lodged in his spinal
cord, and the doctors have declared that he will be paralyzed
from the waist down. However, some feeling is coming back to his
legs. Pray that he will be restored to full health as a testimony
to his people, if that will bring th most glory to God.
Also
ask the Father to meet all of the family's financial needs, to
the praise of His glory! This young man's father was a religious
leader who came to Christ when his son shared the gospel with
him. Several other members of their family have also believed.
This growing movement to Christ within the family has enraged
their persecutors. The mother in the family is not yet a believer
and has been the source of some of her son's persecution in the
past. Pray for her salvation.
The
few other believers among this unreached Muslim people groups
are fearing for their lives. Ask the Lord to comfort, strengthen
and protect the believers. Pray for them to remain faithful to
the Lord. Pray for wisdom, comfort and courage for the few new
believers and workers in the area. Pray that God's angels will
protect them from the enemy.

Her path wasn't typical for an educated woman from a wealthy
Southern family. But Lottie did not serve a typical God.
He had gripped her with the Chinese peoples' need for a

Study: The Privilege and Potential
of Passionate Prayer
By
David Smithers
"And
when they had crucified Him. Jesus cried out with a loud voice,
and breathed His last. Then the veil of the temple was torn in
two from top to bottom" - Mark 15:24-38.
The
sacrifice of Christ has made it possible for all men to have a
passionate relationship with God. Jesus died on the cross so that
we might walk and talk with our God and Father . Jesus suffered
on the cross so that you can passionately pray! What a privilege
and yet so many of us fail to use it. When we neglect prayer,
we do far more than merely neglect some religious exercise, we
are neglecting the very presence and person of Jesus Christ Himself.
