People Group Focus: Kuna Indians of Panama

The Kuna Indians of Panama live in a world all their own. They even call their home, "Kuna Yala" which means, "Land of the Kuna," part of the contry of Panama, Middle America. Very few Kuna have ever clearly heard the kunachildrenGood News. They do believe that a god created the universe, but that he then left them with evil spirits to roam the lands and strike them with diseases and sicknesses. They use wooden dolls called "nuchus" to protect themselves from the spirits. They fear natural disasters will plague them if they don't do good deeds to please this god. They are very caught up in their superstitious beliefs and fearfully try and please god to stay safe. They have no concept of eternity and have no reason for a hope beyond the things of panamaflagthis world. Read more . . .

kunamolaPrayer Points for the Kuna

  • Most Kuna have never heard the gospel and many have no chance of hearing because there are not enough believers in the area to tell them. Pray for God to send laborers to Kuna Yala (Kuna Land) to tell them of forgiveness and salvation through Jesus. (See Matt. 9:37-38)
  • Bondage to evil spirits describes life for many Kuna. Ask God to deliver them from fear by reavealing Himself as a God of peace and of power over the spirits. Pray that the Kuna will know that He who can be in them is greater than He who is in the world. (See 1 John 4:4)
  • Praise God for Kuna believers and ask Him to remind them of how their unity and love for each other will draw other Kuna to know him. (See John 13:35)

Persecuted Church in Spain: Snapshots of Persecution

By Chris Mills, IMB missionary to Spain

A friend of mine in Valencia worked in the corporate management of a major department store.   El Corte Inglés would be comparable to Dillard's.   He openly shared his faith with colleagues; always in an appropriate manner.   Over time, though, he noticed that he was being passed over for promotions for which he was well-qualified.   When he asked his supervisor the reason, he received a non-answer.   Later, through a friend, he learned that it was because he was not Catholic.

A Wandering Jew in Brazil

How does a Polish Jew wind up as a Baptist missionary in Brazil? Such is the unpredictable life of Solomon Ginsburg, the son of a Jewish rabbi in Poland who came to Christ and could not ignore the millions just like him who had never heard the true story of Christianity. Read more . . .

Bible Study: Finding the One

By Amberly Goodman, Journeyman to Russia

In recent weeks, the Lord has laid on my heart Matthew 15:1-7.   His Spirit has gently, as always, reminded me that our God is not only the God who created every person individually and knows them intimately, but He is also the God who seeks individuals, the God who would leave the 99 to find the lost "one".

Discouragement is easy to come by out here on the field, especially when the days are long and cold (even in the summer!) and response to the Message is slow to non-existent. However, God reminds me again and again that He is seeking the "one" and wants me to join in the search. Read more . . .
