People Group Focus: Apolo People of Bolivia and Peruclimbinglow

How would you like backpacking into a remote area of the Amazon jungle to tell chronological stories of God's Word to villagers who live 19 hours away from the nearest major city? That's exactly what members of the Xtreme Team do in their ministry to the Apolo people of Bolivia.

The main Apolo village has only 8 phone lines in the entire village and will possibly receive round-the-clock electricity for the first time by the end of this year. Most villagers believe in one God, but that God is distant and capricious, according to their traditions. You can be part of the team to reach this people with the gospel! Read more . . .

Prayer Points for the Apolo people

Xtreme Team Missionary Armando A. Lopez writes:

I want to praise God becaused He opened another community to share the Gospel. Now we'll be going to Yanamayo (Black River). boliviaflagThey have accepted us and want to learn the Word of God.

  • Pray for our next visit to Yanamayo so that God may open the hearts of the people there.
  • Pray for our health. Most of us feel sick (the flu, toothache and coughing).
  • Pray for my home church (in Peru) that they can stay faithful to the Lord by giving, praying and going to missions.

Persecuted Church: Zhuang of Southern China (jwahng)

There have been crackdowns on religious activity throughout China. Students at a university were told not to study the Bible in a group. They plan to continue to study by themselves and meet together off campus. Please pray for their faith to grow stronger, and also for their safety. In another situation, a sister in Christ has been arrested for holding a worship service. She was sentenced to one year and three months of labor camp. Her crime was that she was working to promote occultism in the name of Christianity. Please pray for success as the local believers take this case to court to seek her release. In yet another instance, a local house church leader has asked prayer for his elder sister and her son who were arrested for distributing Christian VCDs. Family members are not being allowed to visit them. Please pray for God to be glorified in this situation. Please pray for God's continued direction and protection as for the Zhuang.

Missionary Bio Byte: John Geddie of Vanuatu

HIDEOUS SHRIEKS and unearthly wails shattered the stillness of the night.johngeddie

"Do you hear those horrible cries?" asked the missionary's wife.

"Yes," her husband replied. "Someone has died and, after the custom of this dark island, a relative is being strangled."

Shortly after dawn, on a beach nearby, they saw a group of natives casting into the sea the body of the man who had died a few hours earlier and also the body of his wife who had been strangled. Hastening to the shore, the missionary spoke pointedly to the natives about the wickedness of their conduct. Some of them, having for sometime been under Christian instruction, joined in the condemnation, and then set about to locate the actual murderer. In a few minutes the party returned, dragging the culprit. Seeing the white man he cried out: "Have mercy! Let me go and I will never again strangle a woman."

Bible Study: When the Good News is a Tough Choice

By George Siler

Sometimes, choosing the Good News is not an easy choice. Christians are beaten and disowned - and sometimes killed - because they believed that the Good News of Jesus Christ was truly good for them in this life and for eternity.

How can we give people a gospel message that could kill them? Perhaps the real question is, how can we not give them the Truth when Jesus Himself knew the price some of His followers would pay and still He called them to Himself - to peace, to abundance, and to eternity with Him?

"How many there are . who imagine that because Jesus paid it all, they need pay nothing, forgetting that the prime object of their salvation was that they should follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ in bringing back a lost world to God."
