People Group Focus: Nubians of Egypt
With a culture dating back 5,000 years, the Nubians of southern Egypt and Sudan are known for their beauty, dark skin and hospitality. They ruled all of Egypt and Sudan during the ancient Nubian Dynasty. They were a Christian people for nearly 800 years beginning in the 6th century A.D., but gradually converted to Islam. Today they number more than 2 million, but live mostly in poverty-stricken villages after their vast ancestral lands flooded following construction of the Aswan High Dam. They struggle to maintain their heritage in the face of rapid change.

Prayer Points for the Nubians

1.
Praise the Lord for new life for M2, a young Nubian man. This Ramadan, as his family fasted and prayed daily, M2 clung to his faith in Jesus Christ. Local friends talked to M2 about getting "extra points" with God by fasting, but M2 knows he is a sinner saved by grace alone. Pray that M2 would grow strong in his faith and be a light in the darkness.
2.
Pray for the believers amongst the Nubians. There are a lot of fears due to political uncertainties, government check points and road blocks, which have everyone unsettled. This is more so for new believers. Pray that at this time, these new believers would not have a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of self control. Pray especially for D and M.

Persecuted Church: Afghanistan
The Southern Pashtun (POSH-toon) live along the eastern border of Afghanistan and number more than 12.5 million. While a number of believers meet in small groups, no visible Southern Pashtun church exists. Most Pashtun have no access to the Gospel, with no Scripture in the Southern Pashtun language. Because of severe persecution, most Pashtun believers remain secret most of their lives. The few who are known to be believers will likely lose their families, jobs, opportunities in their society – and even their lives.

Bible Study: The Privilege and Potential of Passionate Prayer
By David Smithers
"And when they had crucified Him. Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last. Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom" - Mark 15:24-38.
The sacrifice of Christ has made it possible for all men to have a passionate relationship with God. Jesus died on the cross so that we might walk and talk with our God and Father. Jesus suffered on the cross so that you can passionately pray! What a privilege and yet so many of us fail to use it. When we neglect prayer, we do far more than merely neglect some religious exercise, we are neglecting the very presence and person of Jesus Christ Himself. Read more . . .
