Vicki Davis Williamson, an International Mission Board missionary emeritus who shared the gospel in Zimbabwe and South Africa, died April 15, 2024, in Pelham, Alabama. She was 77.
Vicki was born June 4, 1946, in Greenville, Alabama, to the late William W. Davis Jr. and Evelyn Maxine Snowden Davis. She graduated from Byran Adams High School in Dallas, Texas, and received the Bachelor of Science from Mobile College (now University of Mobile), Mobile, Alabama.
After graduation, she worked as a first-grade teacher. Vicki married Robert E. “Bob” Williamson on Oct. 26, 1968. They moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where Bob attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Vicki worked in the library until their first child was born. They both felt called to Christian ministry and served at churches in Texas and Alabama.
Vicki came to faith in Christ as a child. During Girls Auxiliary (now Girls in Action) camp in sixth grade, Vicki felt the Lord wanted her to be missionary but kept her commitment private. While seeking appointment Vicki wrote that after she married Bob, those feelings returned. She told him about it one night and he told her how the Lord had been speaking to him about foreign missions as well. He had been praying the Lord would confirm his feelings by leading Vicki to the same conclusion. “Neither of us were aware of God’s word to the other until that night,” Vicki wrote while seeking appointment. “We committed ourselves to this call as the Lord opened the door.”
In 1975, the Foreign Mission Board (now International Mission Board) appointed Bob and Vicki missionaries to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). They served one term there and another term in Bophuthatswana (now part of South Africa). In 1982, the family returned to the United States for 15 years of pastoral ministry, first serving at First Baptist Church, Eclectic, Alabama, and then at Moffett Road Baptist Church, Mobile.
In 1996, Bob and Vicki were reappointed as career missionaries to Cape Town, South Africa. They retired from the International Mission Board in 2011.
Vicki was preceded in death by Bob, her husband of 53 years.
She is survived by her children, Melissa Ann Williamson Hawkins (Craig); Robert Nathan Williamson (Kimberly); and five grandchildren.
A celebration of life service was held April 18, 2024, at Good Hope Baptist Church in Eclectic, Alabama, with burial in Good Hope Cemetery.
