Nancy Annette Hall, an International Mission Board missionary emeritus who shared the gospel in the Middle East and France, died Aug. 9, 2024, in Richmond, Virginia. She was 80.
Annette was born Sept. 20, 1943, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late John Oats Hall and Annie Laurie Hall. She graduated from Granby High School; received a diploma from North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing (now Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist), Winston-Salem; the Bachelor of Science from Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing (now Virginia Commonwealth University), Richmond; the Master of Science from Emory University Graduate School of Nursing, Atlanta, Georgia; and attended The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky.
She accepted Christ at the age of 8 during a summer revival. While attending Camp Ridgecrest with her family as a young teen, she gained wide exposure to home and foreign missions. Later, during nursing school, she attended a medical missions conference and learned about becoming a medical missionary. In seminary Annette went to Gaza as a summer missionary and experienced international missions for the first time.
While seeking missionary appointment, she wrote, “It seems that missions has always been part of me. Since my early experiences in [Girls in Action], I have always been involved in community missions. I have increasingly had an awareness of medical needs overseas. I also feel that other nations need to know the love of God. Increasingly I have felt that God wanted me overseas. … I am excited and eager to go.”
In 1973, the Foreign Mission Board (now International Mission Board) appointed Annette missionary to the Middle East, where she served as a nurse and nurse educator. She later transferred to another country and became director of the School of Health Sciences. In 1990, Annette moved to Paris where she worked with Muslim women and families sharing the gospel through the Bible storying method. After 36 years, she retired from overseas service and continued her work as a volunteer for the Strategic Scripture Resource team for the IMB.
Annette was preceded in death by a brother, William (Bill) Hall; sister-in-law, Adrianna Hall; and a great niece, Morgan Moncrief.
She is survived by her sister, Brenda Moncrief (Tom); two nieces, Susan Markham (Matt) and Kathryn Hall; four nephews, Jonathan Hall (Tracey), Michael Hall (Katie), Monty Moncrief (Malia) and Kevin Moncrief (Abby); and sister-in-law, Frances Hall. She is also survived by six great nieces and six great nephews.
A celebration of life service will take place Aug. 31 at Richmond’s First Baptist Church, with burial in Autryville (North Carolina) Baptist Church Cemetery.
