A local church opened their grounds to internally displaced people. Kenyans camped out on the grounds, in the church and on any space available.
Kenya, normally a stable African country, erupted into violence after the Dec. 27, 2007 election. More than 1,000 people died and 600,000 were internally displaced. Opposition say the election was rigged. International observers say both sides cheated and there’s no way to know who won. Kenyans started protesting with riots on Dec. 29. The polls were finally announced Dec. 30. Election violence quickly turned into ethnic animosity — tribe turning against tribe — friend against friend.
