Marjorie Cornelia Perkins Dean, an emeritus International Mission Board missionary who shared the gospel among East Asian Affinity Peoples in Hong Kong, died Dec. 20, 2019, in Missouri City, Texas. She was 84.
Dean was born on March 23, 1935, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Nathaniel and Hilda Perkins. Dean accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at age 9 and was baptized Oct. 2, 1944, at Trinity Baptist Church in Norfolk. She graduated from Norview High School, Norfolk; received the Bachelor of Arts from Carson Newman College, Tennessee; and graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Texas.
She married Clark Earl Dean on July 10, 1954. She taught Bible in a private high school in Detroit, Michigan, before she and Clark were appointed missionaries to Hong Kong in 1967. They served there until 1970. Clark died in 1982, and Marjorie returned to Hong Kong, serving from 1987 to 2002.
Dean was very active in her local church, WMU and, after her retirement, the Churchland, Virginia, Women’s Club.
Dean is survived by her sons Mark (Marcia) Dean, David (Leslie) Dean, and Nathaniel (Leah) Dean; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Jan. 8 at the Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth, Virginia.
