Agricultural evangelist Harold Watson called himself a Mississippi farm boy who felt the call to share Jesus overseas before he knew what an agricultural missionary was. In 1971, Watson founded the Baptist Rural Life Center, a training center for farmers on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines, that integrated agricultural development and Bible teaching. Additionally, he developed the method called Sloping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT) that enabled farmers to produce food from badly eroded hillsides. Over the years, SALT gave thousands of farm families the simple tools to survive, while introducing them to the giver of abundant life.
